Melanotan 1 (MT-1), also known as afamelanotide, is a synthetic analogue of the naturally occurring alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). It works by binding to melanocortin receptors in the skin, stimulating the production of eumelanin — the pigment responsible for skin darkening.
